Cottages From the 1850s, Pipes to Match

The houses came before the plumbing

Georgetown's first cottages went up in the 1850s for the men who worked at Goninans, and their compact lots still line streets such as Moate Street and Young Street. The sewers under them are original clay, jointed by hand generations before plastic pipe existed.

Reactive clay does the damage

This reactive clay rises when soaked and settles in a dry spell, and brittle earthenware joints crack open under that slow push and pull. Roots move into the gaps, waste catches on the broken edges, and a sewer that coped in summer chokes once autumn drops its leaves.

Inside, the supply lines age too

Plenty of unrenovated weatherboard and fibro places still carry galvanised supply lines, which rust shut from within. Pressure that fades year by year and a rusty tinge in the first glass are the signs, so we look at the supply pipe before quoting.

How Quotes Work Here

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours).

The price is settled before work starts. Four things move it:

  • Access Crawling under a timber floor to reach a pipe takes less time than cutting into a slab or tiled floor.
  • Pipe material Earthenware, galvanised, PVC and polybutylene each need different methods and fittings.
  • Parts Whichever unit or fitting you pick, named on the quote before you commit.
  • When you need us Evening and weekend work sits on a higher rate, and that goes on the quote too.

When we're not the right call. A collapsed retaining wall needs a builder, and a fault inside the switchboard needs an electrician. We hand those over on the phone instead of quoting them.

Storm Rain and the Throsby Catchment

Runoff heads for Throsby Creek

Every gutter and yard grate in Georgetown feeds that catchment, and area figures put annual rainfall at 1,091 mm, with east-coast rain events dropping plenty of it at once. When rain lands faster than the old undersized lines can shift it, water ponds and backs toward the house.

The gully trap shows it first

A surcharged stormwater line surfaces at the lowest outlet, so the warning sign is a wet laundry floor or a gully running backwards rather than a flooded yard. The stormwater drains page explains the clear-and-check process, and drain jetting covers the high-pressure clearing itself.

Questions Households Ask Before Booking

Is it free to have a plumber come out?

Yes, in standard hours. It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours). A night or weekend visit carries a higher rate, which is spelled out on the phone before you commit, so the invoice never carries a charge you did not see coming.

Which suburbs do you cover?

Georgetown itself plus the neighbours. Waratah, Mayfield, Islington, Hamilton North and Broadmeadow all sit on the run, along with Hamilton, Lambton and Tighes Hill. If your address falls just beyond that pocket, ring and ask, and you get a straight yes or no.

Can you clear tree roots from old clay sewer pipes?

Yes. The jetter's cutting head or the eel shears the root mass out, then put the camera down to check the pipe walls. If the pipe is cracked right through, we talk you through relining or a replacement.

Do you replace hot water systems after hours?

We do. A storage unit that quits on a Sunday is an emergency call, and the phone is answered at any hour. If the new unit cannot be sourced straight away, we can set up a temporary tank so the hot water keeps running.

Are you licensed for gas fitting work?

Yes, licensed plumbers and gas fitters. That covers cooktop and oven installs, bayonet points, gas leak detection and repairs, and upgrading old fittings during renovations. Every gas job is tested before we leave.

What warranty comes with the work?

A full year. Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If a fault appears on work we completed inside that year, ring the same number and the plumber returns to put it right.
