Drain Jetting Georgetown

Drain jetting in Georgetown sends water through a choked pipe at high pressure, stripping off the grease, silt and root fibre an eel would leave behind. The cost is settled with you up front, and bookings go through the phone or the form. It is one method within our blocked drains work as a plumber in Georgetown.

What Does Jetting Do That an Eel Cannot?

Both tools get a choked line flowing, but they leave the pipe in very different states, and the blockage decides which one we use:

  • An electric eel bores a channel through the heart of the blockage, which moves water again but leaves the cause stuck to the walls.
  • The jetter drives water forward through a nozzle, scouring the full circumference of the pipe as it travels.
  • Grease, soap fat and sediment lift off the wall and flush out, instead of catching the next lot of waste that comes through.
  • The hose follows bends and junctions that a rigid coil handles roughly.

For a line that keeps blocking, the difference matters: a channel through a root mass closes over again, while a scoured wall stays clean far longer.

How the Jetting Visit Unfolds

Every jetting job runs the same four steps, whatever the line is carrying.

  1. 01

    Find the access

The gully, inspection point or boundary shaft is located and opened so the hose enters the line at the right spot.

  2. 02

    Feed and scour

The hose travels down the pipe under working pressure, cleaning the walls from the inside as it goes.

  3. 03

    Flush the debris

Loosened grease, silt and root fragments are carried down to the sewer main instead of settling back in the pipe.

  4. 04

    Camera the result

A drain camera follows the jetter so you can see the bore is clean, not just flowing. The footage sits with your job record, and a full inspection is on the CCTV drain inspection page.

If that final check shows cracked earthenware or a collapsed section, the next conversation is repair, not more jetting.

What Shapes the Cost of a Jetting Visit?

Four things feed into the figure you are quoted:

  • The length of drain to be scoured, and whether one opening reaches all of it
  • The blockage itself: fat and silt lift off fast, a dense root mat takes longer
  • The condition of the access point, since a sealed or damaged shaft adds work before the jetting starts
  • A clear that cannot wait for Monday morning costs more than a planned weekday scour

No dollar figures appear here because each line differs. You hear the fixed number before any hose is unrolled.

Clay Joints, Street Trees and the Jetter

The housing sets the work

Georgetown's first weatherboard and brick cottages went up from the 1850s for the engineering and copper works, and the earthenware drains under them have spent well over a century in reactive clay that shifts with every wet and dry spell.

The trees finish the job

Mature plantings along the narrow older streets work roots into ageing joints, and a jetter fitted with a cutting nozzle scrapes that fibre away all round the bore instead of just boring a hole through it.

Storms expose dirty pipe

Runoff here ends up in Throsby Creek, and a line half-lined with silt has even less room when a Hunter storm arrives, so it backs up into the lowest gully first. Scouring the full bore gives the water its capacity back.

What Customers Say

We talked through the options of our blocked kitchen sink drain (not just an s bend problem) and came to the perfect long term solution at a reasonable price.

When We're Not the Right Call

Collapsed pipe. A jetter shifts blockages; it cannot mend pipe. When the camera shows a collapsed or badly shattered section, the fix is pipe relining or excavation, and the honest answer is a repair, not another jetting run on a line that will fail again.

Roots or stormwater. A choke that is mostly root mass belongs to tree root removal, and a surcharged stormwater line in heavy rain is a stormwater drains question.

Past your boundary. Once the hose reaches the junction with the sewer main, anything further along is Hunter Water's pipe, and a choke in it is reported to them.

Is high-pressure jetting safe for the old earthenware pipes under Georgetown cottages?

It is, provided the operator dials the pressure down to suit old clay. Hundred-year-old clay gets a softer setting than modern PVC, and the post-clear camera pass shows the walls came through intact. If the earthenware is too far gone, we stop and show you before any more water goes down it.

What is the difference between jetting and an electric eel?

An eel spins a steel coil that drills through the blockage, while jetting fires water forward at pressure, scrubbing the whole pipe wall as it travels. Grease and sediment wash away instead of staying put to trap the next load of waste.

Do I need jetting for a slow kitchen sink, or will a plunger do?

Try the plunger first if the water still moves. If the sink keeps slowing within days, grease has probably coated the pipe further along, and that coating is exactly what a jetter strips. A camera run confirms it before anything is booked.

How long does a jetting visit take on a cottage block here?

A single booking covers a one-line clear on a cottage block. Setting up at the opening is quick, the scour runs as the hose works along the line, and the camera pass afterwards adds a little on top. A long sewer run with several branches takes longer.
